Blog Post: GMSHRM - Abilities Seminar at Goodwill Industries

On Tuesday, June 3, 2008, the Greater Miami Society for Human Resource Management (GMSHRM) will host a three-part event at the Goodwill Industries of South Florida. 

Part 1: The TourThe event starts at 9AM with a tour of the impressive Goodwill Industries facility in South Florida. Goodwill Industries of South Florida is a non-profit organization dedicated to training, employing and placing people with disabilities and special needs in community jobs in order to transition to independence.

Parking is available in the government garage, across from the front of the Goodwill building. Enjoy a continental breakfast and then tour the Goodwill facility while learning how Goodwill can provide you with trained candidates.

Part 2: Seminar"The Business Argument for Focusing on Abilities (Not Disabilities) - The ADA , Compliance, Legal Requirements"
After the tour, participants will participate in a seminar on hiring and managing people with disabilities. The seminar is presented by Eladio Amores, Corporate Consultant with the Florida Dept of Education, Div. of Vocational Rehabilitation.  The seminar will cover the ADA , Compliance, Statistics comparing the turnover, productivity rates and attendance of those labeled as disabled as opposed to other employees, tips on Accommodation, and Basic Workplace Communication and Etiquette. This seminar has been pre-approved for 2.0 HRCI credits!

Part 3: Lunch and Recruitment SessionStay for a boxed lunch and then meet with trained Goodwill applicants (if you have scheduled the Interviews* in advance with the Goodwill Placement Manager).
