Blog Post: Helping the community, helping jobseekers! PinkSlipParty!
posted Thursday, March 26, 2009 9:20 AM
Can you get a job in a social setting? Of course you can! Have you ever seen CEO's, Presidents, and politicians play golf? Do you think that they are just playing golf? NO...they are doing deals and networking. So I came across the PinkSlipParty because of my involvement in many organizations and it was a success in key cities across the U.S., so of course I wanted to bring it on to South Florida.
I have seen many job seekers struggle finding a job, and definetly struggle at networking, so come on out, have fun, support Junior Achievement, and oh, of course...try and find your next opportunity. Networking is key in this market. You never know who you will meet and where that conversation may take you.
The Pink Slip Party is an evening event that brings together hundreds of professionals and sympathizers to honor the passing of the many companies that have shut their doors or have downsized throughout this economic slowdown. The party is about networking and connecting the pink slipped (and those who are nervous about losing their job) with companies that are hiring. You might say that this is the casual version of a job fair, minus the tables and the lines. Simply come, enjoy and meet area HR professionals, recruiters, and hiring managers in a relaxed environment and learn about Junior Achievement and the opportunities in volunteering your time. If you have a target company in mind...maybe you can invite them to this event! Here's a sure way to try and speak to someone from that company. Tell them what the event is about and that it is for charity too! When you register at the door, you will receive a color-coded bracelet that will identify you
Remeber, you have to put yourself out there to get accepted or rejected...it's like dating! Key things to remember: 1. You are still being interviewed even though it's a relaxed setting. 2. Dress to impress! 3. Know what job you are targeting! 4. Be positive, know why you are of value! 5. There are so many tips, but know this...have some business cards with you and make sure you follow up with someone, especially if there is a potential position involved! Stay tuned for more information. Good luck and see you at Violet
