Position Summary:

Member of a multidisciplinary team designed to provide patient care under the direct supervision of a physician, nurse practitioner or nurse.

Position Expectations and Responsibilities:

Expected to demonstrate knowledge of injection sites. Expected to have the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Expected to have basic mathematical skills. Expected to have basic computer skills. Expected to be proficient with STAR, HBOC, and Portal systems. Expected to perform aseptic procedures. Expected to perform office procedures including general administrative duties. Expected to collect patient demographics, data, vital signs, height, weight and basic information about patients' present and previous conditions. Expected to arrange examining room instruments and equipment. Expected to apply simple dressings. Expected to remove sutures or staples from superficial lacerations. Expected to administer medications orally, topically, vaginally or rectally. Expected to position, drape and shave patients. Expected to collect specimens using non-invasive techniques. Expected to preserve specimens for testing. Expected to perform venipuncture. Expected to perform pulse oximetry. Expected to provide patient information and instructions. Expected to have the ability to write simple correspondence. Expected to have the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Minimum Education and/or Experience Required:
One year certificate from college or technical school OR One year related experience and/or training Licensure/Regulation/Certification: Certified Medical Assistant by the American Association of Medical Assistants or Registered Medical Assistant by the American Society of Medical Technologists, BLS certification from American Heart Association

*Incumbent may be required to perform emergency duty before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency, crisis situation or disaster (man-made or natural) including evacuation sites.

*The person in this location may be asked to work in a smoke-free location, and is expected to adhere to all smoking restrictions.
