Job Description
The Senior HR Manager partners with the assigned business unit managers and employees to execute on the people objectives of the organization. This individual understands the business environment and uses that as a backdrop to deliver HR services to the client groups. Must be well versed in conducting highly sensitive, complex investigations; interpret Kaplan policies in the delivery of HR programs and business initiatives; and exercise creative problem solving skills. Must be aware of and favorably impact the employee relations climate for business units and assure consistency across the company. Position supports the recruitment, sourcing and candidate selection for assigned business unit. Builds relationships and works effectively with all levels of senior management and employees. Serves on and lead cross-functional project teams as required.

Typical activities for the Senior Human Resources Manager include:

Employee Relations
*Provide employee relations counseling to all employees within their assigned business unit including policy interpretation, proper investigation and documentation of employee relations issues to assure that all employees are treated fairly. May report to highest member of the KU team.
*Lead and direct succession planning meetings and give suggestions to managers and employees to assist in maximizing employee development.
*Provide assistance to employees in the areas of policies and procedures including employment, compensation, benefits and employee relations.
*Provides resources directly to divisions by assessing departmental needs/organizational planning and development, evaluating departmental structure, job design and manpower forecasting.
*Identifies legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting the HR function. Monitors exposure of the company. Directs the preparation of information requested or required for compliance.

Performance Management
*Responsible for the establishment of performance management practices and follows through with action plans as needed. Create and/or review all performance management documentation for business units or for HR reports.
*Coach and direct supervisors and staff in the delivery and tracking of performance management.
*Execute and track all employee transactions pertaining to routine salary administration, leaves of absence, new hires, promotions, transfers, terminations and other changes in status of employees. Liaison with responsible administrators of each process.
*Administration of salary administration program.

Training and Development
*Serves as primary contact to ensure training requirements and participation are complied with for assigned business units. Mentors and coaches individuals on organizational and developmental issues.
*Participates and may facilitate in the development and implementation of in-house training programs that address the company's changing needs in conjunction with the HR Training department.
*Mentors, supports and participates in all management training seminars for employees.

Recruitment and Selection
*Liaisons with the recruitment department for all recruitment needs in assigned business units including counseling managers through the recruitment process including interviewing and selection.
*Partners with recruitment to support hiring and diversity initiatives.
*Supports and conducts pre-screening and interviews as needed.

Career Development
*Provide career counseling to employees regarding internal progression/succession.

PROBLEM SOLVING/DECISION MAKING:
*Ability to work and lead multiple projects with proactive follow through and tenacity.
*Strong organization skills with demonstrated success utilizing creative/effective-sourcing techniques.
* Ability to use good judgment, and knowledge of legal requirements/company policies when faced with difficult challenges. Considerable judgment must be exercised when providing advice and counsel to employees.

Education and Experience:
1. A bachelors degree and seven (7+) years of Human Resources experience, OR
2. A graduate degree in Human Resources Management and four (4+) years of experience in the HR field, OR
3. Eleven (11+) years of experience in the HR field, OR
4. Any similar combination of education and experience.
5. HR Certification (PHR or SPHR) preferred.
