Aerojet Rocketdyne seeks an Intern - Maintainability and Product Support Engineering for summer 2018. The position will be located in West Palm Beach, FL.

After orientation and training, the intern will perform entry-level engineering tasks on rocket propulsion projects. The intern will support senior engineering staff and gain experience and familiarization with Aerojet Rocketdyne projects. The candidate must be able to operate effectively in a team environment. This internship position will start approximately June 2018.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

General tasks will include maintainability, support analyses, and post-delivery product support engineering tasks for a variety of Aerojet Rocketdyne rocket engine products.

80% - Tasks include support to the Exploration Upper Stage (EUS) development program that will be integrating four RL10 engines into an upper stage for NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS). Activities include maintainability and supportability assessments, support equipment definition, and operational technical requirements documentation for engine processing.

20% - Activities can include support to the sustaining engineering, engine processing, launch and mission support activities for the RL10 upper stage engine utilized on the ATLAS and DELA IV rocket vehicles. Orientation and training will be directed at participation in readiness reviews, anomaly resolution, field support, and engine processing and vehicle integration.


Candidates must be currently enrolled in a B.S. degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or similar major and have completed their junior year of study OR be enrolled in an M.S. degree program in a related major. To be considered for our internship, you must be continuing with your education in the fall 2018.

US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Additional Requirements:

  • Solid academic track record of accomplishment.
  • Working knowledge of all Microsoft Software applications.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with little direction.
  • Leadership & teamwork skills are a must.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
