Job Description

Job Summary:
Provides routine and repetitive patient care activities to patients/residents. Maintains standards of nursing care, under the supervision of licensed Nursing personnel, in accordance with the philosophy, goals and objectives of the Nursing Department and regulatory agencies.

Summary of Essential Job Functions:
•Provides basic bedside care to patients under the supervision of a nurse as established in department’s policies and procedures
•Performs activities of daily living and patient hygiene. Maintains a comfortable environment for patients
•Lifts, positions and transports patients/residents into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, etc. in keeping with specific patient/resident/employee safety standards
•Performs morning or evening care, including mouth care, peri-care, linen change, and blanket as necessary
•Maintains resident’s privacy during the activities of daily living
•Performs restorative and rehabilitative procedures as directed
•Performs a variety of routine patient care procedures including, collecting and delivering specimens, recording patient height and weight, taking and documenting vital signs, providing assistance with nourishment and infection control techniques etc.
•Assists with patient’s admission and discharge
•Transports residents, supplies, equipment, etc. between the nursing unit and other departments
•Documents the patient care activities performed on the unit
•Organizes, cleans and maintains the patient/resident units
•Ensures that resident’s/patient’s rights are adhered to
•Participates in departmental activities, meetings and in-services and follows established guidelines

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
•High School Diploma or equivalent
•Graduate of a Certified Nursing Assistant Program

Experience:
•Full time C.N.A’s:1 year experience as a C.N.A in a nursing home preferred
•Per Diem C.N.A’s: require a minimum of 2 years experience in a nursing home/long term care facility environment.

Licenses/Certifications:
•Current State of Florida as a Certified Nursing Assistant license
•Current BLS Certification 

Abilities Required:
•Good communication skills
•Ability to speak read and write English
•Ability to think and act calmly to meet unusual occurrences of the job
•Demonstrates a caring attitude toward MJHS residents, patients, family members, employees and other facility guests

•Normal working condition with adequate lighting and ventilation
•Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals; bio-hazardous waste; flammable, explosive gas
