Position Summary:

The Laboratory of Dr. Susana Valente in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at Scripps Research, is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to conduct research in HIV biology (http://www.scripps.edu/valente/).
Current scientific interests are: Inhibitors of Tat-activated HIV-1 transcription; Identification and characterization of chromatin regulators of HIV-1 latency;
characterization of HIV-1 latency inhibitors of HIV capsid dimerization.
Studies incorporate cellular and molecular virology, cell biology, biochemistry, epigenetics and small molecule screening.

Position Description

A Postdoctoral Associate is a direct pay individual in a Division 3 status. Postdoctoral Associates are appointed positions for the purpose of developing scholarly competence, working under the supervision of a TSRI Faculty member. These appointments are normally not renewed beyond a total of six years. Postdoctoral Associates cannot apply for external funding either as a Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator without prior approval from a Departmental Chair. Postdoctoral Associates do not have consulting privileges.

This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

Basic Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a Ph.D. (or MD/PhD) in virology, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry or immunology, with several international publications. Preference to candidates with experience with HIV. The successful candidate will be expected to work in the BSL3 facility.
